The team at Equus Design & Build have been completing projects at home and internationally for over two decades. Specialising in the design and construction of bespoke indoor and outdoor arenas, all-weather gallops, stable yards, barns, horse-walkers, and lunge pens, Equus have a wealth of knowledge in Equestrian projects. With a focus on quality, precise timing, and planning, it is no wonder Equus have created more all-weather polo arenas worldwide than any other specialist contractor.

Hugh leads the company’s design and sales with 30 years of global experience in design and construction. 

His hands-on skills enable him to guide the Equus team in delivering high-quality equestrian, residential, and rural projects. Michael O’Hagan is a globally respected figure in the thoroughbred racing and breeding industry, with over four decades of international experience. Renowned for his strategic insight and extensive network, he has led major initiatives across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas. As Founder of MOH Consultancy, he connects clients to elite bloodstock opportunities, delivering expert guidance in international trade, marketing, and industry development.

Sam Terry

Sales & Marketing Director

Sam joined the team in 2019 with over ten years of senior management experience, currently leads a sales team. He focuses on  brand awareness, trade shows and social media, while also serving as the primary contact for most of our clients. The Equus journey typically begins with Sam, who collaborates closely with Hugh to ensure a seamless experience from start to finish.

Edward Wylie

Surveying Director

Edward along with his team are responsible for costing all projects and presenting to the management team for review. His team runs the contract administration for all projects; responsible for valuations and final accounts

Finance Director

Peter has been with the company for over 15 years and strives to make the company as financial efficient as possible.

Peter is also responsible for Health and safety on sites and is our named officer for the HSE, compiling Risk Assessments and Methods statements with trained members of staff performing works activities safely.

Construction runs in Darren veins, he consistently serves as our vigilant presence on the ground, ensuring effective management and seamless operations at all times. Since joining the team in 2022 he has seen all of our projects through to completion. With a storied background in building, Darren is pivotal in upholding the exceptional standards we maintain for our clients worldwide.

Automotive Head Designer and Equestrian Architect

With over 30 years of diverse design experience and a decade focused on ultra-luxury garages, Jayde is renowned for understanding automotive enthusiasts’ passions.

His expertise spans architectural, landscape, interior, furniture, automotive, and industrial design, complemented by his passion for restoring classic cars and motorcycles. Additionally, Jayde is an accomplished horseman, having competed in skill at arms events.

As Equus’s head of design, Jayde ensures meticulous attention and focus on what matters to you.

Equus Design & Build have recently built a wonderful equestrian facility for me comprising of an indoor arena, stables and storage facilities. This included upgrading the existing entrances, roads, tracks and paddocks. The Equus eye for detail was clear to see from the initial planning stage right through to handover and they were eager to deliver exactly what I wanted. Their wealth of knowledge and experience resulted in a truly special project. Not only is the main building beautiful, it’s also practical and has the needs of the horse and rider in mind. The layout flows, it’s light and airy. The horses are extremely comfortable and most importantly, safe. The existing on-site groom’s accommodation was also completely renovated and transformed into a lovely home. The entire team at Equus were incredibly professional and a pleasure to work with. They ensured that the project was completed on time and within the budget to a world class standard. I could not be happier with the result and highly recommend their services.

We worked with Equus Design & Build, throughout 2019 and into 2020, on the planning stages of a substantial private equestrian centre and on the construction stage of a small but complex residential project. The Equus team have always provided the most professional of service. They approach their work with commitment and with a very positive attitude. Both projects have required a high level of ingenuity to overcome the technical challenges of complex site conditions and acute issues of stability with an ancient, listed building. We employed Equus Design after a tender process carried out by Pike Smith and Kemp and appointed Equus to complete the design and build of the extensive equestrian works at Zacara Polo grounds. The works evolved through the design process to complete the total transformation of the Polo grounds which included extensive work updating the entire infrastructure. Landscaping one of the main issues we had on the project was the extremely high water table using extensive de- watering systems during the construction phase. All the communication with the Equus team was always pro active and concise. The works at Zacara included residential works and we are in the process of asking Equus to quote for works on the Owners own house Natalie Guest. Equus delivered the project on time in nine months from start date to an exceptionally high standard, I personally have been involved in high end residential project and the equestrian industry for many years and would not hesitate to recommend Equus for either. It is in my opinion the best equestrian facility I have seen to date.
